This is probably the best known wreck dive in the area. The wreck is that of a British minesweeper, the HMS Squirrel, which sank on July 24th 1945 after a collision with a mine laid by the Japanese during World War II. As lives were lost during the sinking, this is a proven war grave and penetration of the vessel and the collecting of articles is strictly forbidden. The vessel is torn into several pieces, is split almost in the middle and is twisted. The stern is lying on its starboard side and the bow is lying on the port side, resulting in difficulties navigating around the superstructure. Scattered 20mm and 100mm ammunition, fallen port holes and two propellers still on their shafts, are veiled behind discarded fishing nets, and there are a number of items scattered around elsewhere.Due to the circumstances under which the vessel sank, this wreck is certainly a site with charms of its own and the impression left after diving here is indescribable, even if the conditions are less than perfect. Only divers who have acquired wreck experience should dive at this site.
