      David’s Mergui Trip

David Henshaw has just posted a trip report from his winning liveaboard trip around the Mergui Archipelago with Siam Adventure Divers onboard their boat MV Jazz

Here are some snippets from the report!

14,000 square miles of glistening water laps the shores of the 800 islands of the Mergui archipelago - Myanmar or Burma as it may be better known.

The landscape here is a mixture of granite and limestone with massive boulders piercing the otherwise flat seascape. Underwater reveals similar structures, large boulders, canyons and channels with an array of pelagic life from zebra sharks, fantailed rays, bowmouth guitarfish and even whale sharks!

Our favourite dive was ‘In Through the Out Door’ or ‘Three Islets’ as it is also known, where you enter a corridor between two huge rocks which is teeming with sweepers and soft corals adorn the walls, suddenly the force of nature grabs you and pulls you along then spits you out the other end - exhilarating!

MV Jazz is a comfortable liveaboard run by a knowledgeable and competent crew with a spacious dive deck offering 3 dives a day and a fridge full of cold beers for the after-dive social gathering. On board with us were a group of divers who had joined Jazz for the 4th time - testament itself!

The September 2009, Dive Thailand Photo Competition winner, Debi Henshaw, selected a liveaboard excursion in the Similans with Scuba Cat Diving onboard MV Scuba Cat.

Here are just a few comments from her recently claimed prize!

“She (MV Scuba Cat) is ideally placed to get the best from the super dive sites that abound, offering up to 5 dives a day in small groups and with her attentive crew and great food she is a good base.”

“We did 15 dives during our stay which offered a good mix of both macro and wide angle photo opportunities.”

“The unique thing about MV Scuba Cat is she can cater for divers who maybe only want to stay one or two nights, perhaps to complete their open water course or simply to sample the delights these islands have to offer.”
